Description of Lecture
A direct result of high incarceration rates in the United states is the significant number of released prisoners living in our communities, which is especially important when the the data shows that one of every three ex-offenders recidivates. Myriad studies have investigate why released prisoners return to prison and have served as the basis for programs desighned to reduce those numbers. This lecture looks at recidivism rates from a different angle and examines reasons released prisoners stay out of prison. The answer benefits every part of our society, especially higher education, because dollars saved corrections could be used for education.
