Abstract for the conference program

The Advanced Manufacturing and Prototyping Integrated to Unlock Potential (AMP-IT-UP) project is an NSF-sponsored Math and Science Partnership between the Griffin-Spalding County School System and Georgia Tech’s Center for Education Integrating Science, Mathematics and Computing (CEISMC). As part of the AMP-IT-UP project, week-long modules were developed that emphasize the integration of math and science practices, within grade-level specific disciplinary content. Participants in this session will learn about the overall AMP-IT-UP project while exploring 4 simulation-based modules that were developed for 8thgrade math and science courses. The modules are contextualized in energy and integrate core ideas in physical science and algebra while giving students experience with developing procedures, visualizing data and making data-based decisions. Session attendees will receive access to curriculum materials and discover how the modules can be integrated within their classes to support 3-dimensional learning. A laptop or internet ready device is necessary for exploring the modules.
