Abstract for the conference program
The challenges I face as an Engineering and Technology teacher are deciding what materials to use, what lessons to prepare, connecting activities to other disciplines and teaching career-relevant skills. The LEGO Mindstorms Robotics platform addresses all of these challenges. In my presentation I will share the practices I use when teaching robotics, the challenging lessons I prepared, and how to monitor progress and provide direction. I will share how I connected the robotics program to other disciplines such as Art, and Physical Science. I plan for participants to gain an understanding of how to use a robotics kit in their classroom, how to prepare lessons for their students, and how to use the LEGO Mindstorms Robotics kits. I plan to have several of my students present with me to work with participants, demonstrate programming, and discuss how the robotics program has impacted their learning.
