Abstract for the conference program
The idea of leading a traditional elementary school through the transformation into a STEM Academy may be quite daunting. This round table discussion will begin with a presentation of three perspectives of change needed for shifting into a focused instructional style emphasizing science, technology, engineering, and math. The administrative perspective will present the development and evolution of the STEM vision needed for the instructional paradigm shift while leading a school. The process of curriculum development will be presented with the challenges of incorporating the standards and avoiding the addition of more expectations for teachers. A strategic plan for technology use throughout the school will also be presented. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss the victories and challenges through an experienced panel having the understanding of the tremendous need of STEM education for function and success in a global society.
