SoTL in Promotion and Tenure Applications: Methods to Make the Case
Abstract
How can SoTL-active faculty “make the case” for the value of SoTL in their promotion and tenure applications? How can those who mentor and support SoTL-active faculty (e.g., professional developers, senior faculty, administrators) help them to make the case? How can those who review applications from SoTL-active faculty (e.g., review committees, administrators, external reviewers) help to provide a fair review? In this interactive workshop, the presenter will share strategies from the international SoTL literature and his own experience as a tenured and multiply promoted SoTL scholar, review committee member, and external reviewer to make the case for the value of SoTL in major review applications. Participants will leave this session with multiple alternatives to make the case for SoTL in promotion and tenure applications from which to further develop and implement action plans.
