Teaching Practices (Poster Only) – Analysis, synthesis, reflection, and discussion
Abstract
This talk will compare student success between a traditional lecture format versus a flipped classroom model in MA240: Introduction to Number Theory and Cryptology. In the flipped model students watched lecture videos created with a tablet PC or iPad Pro before class and completed ‘homework’ exercises during the regular class period. (An example video can be found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5RcMWiUyyE ).
Analysis of the results from flipped classroom as compared to those with the traditional lecture format suggests significant improvement using the flipped format on both the final exam as well as the final course grade.
