Giving GIFTs to Faculty: Learning About Innovative Teaching Practices

Teaching Practices (Poster Only) – Analysis, synthesis, reflection, and discussion
Abstract
In an effort to broaden our faculty’s conception of SoTL research and provide an opportunity for faculty to learn about innovative teaching practices, we decided to test out a new (to our university) approach: a Great Ideas for Teaching (GIFT) session. A GIFT session is a peer-reviewed forum to discuss inventive teaching practices. The implementation of GIFT presentations has been a success on both accounts, increasing faculty exposure to SoTL research and innovative teaching across our campus. We look forward to discussing ways the GIFT format might be applied to other institutions and contexts.
