Enhancing online learning using video vignettes: A learner centered approach
Conference Tracks
Online Learning – Research
Abstract
Vignettes highly engage learners into the situation at hand. By stimulating the emotional response, students are drawn into the situation and able to suspend reality. This allows for a deeper understanding and commitment to the exercise. A stand alone nursing university implemented vignettes using the REELDx platform in a Pediatric course for Family Nurse Practitioners.
The students simulate clinical practice by roll playing as the provider. The students work through the case determining differentials and a plan based on the subjective and objective information provided. Faculty act as facilitators of the conversation and also in the preceptor role as needed.
