Teaching and Learning in Counselor Education: A Content Analysis
Abstract
In attempts to better understand the status of SoTL in counselor education, this poster session will provide a content analysis of 178 peer-reviewed articles regarding teaching and learning published in journals sponsored by the American Counseling Association and its divisions between January 2001 and December 2010. Results will include examination of degree to which articles represented original research, methodologies employed, constructs investigated, instrumentation, sample characteristics, primary focus, and theoretical foundations. Presenters will reflect upon implications for SoTL in counselor education specifically and facilitate discussion regarding opportunities for parallel exploration in across disciplines. As a result of participating in this poster session, participants will be able to identify trends in SoTL projects within counselor education, consider the degree to which SoTL trends within counselor education may be reflective of SoTL trends within their unique disciplines, and identify opportunities and methods for utilizing content and meta-analysis to understand the universe of SoTL within and across disciplines.
