Full Session Description

Early adversity, in the form of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), trauma, and toxic stress, can have lasting effects on health and development even when experienced in the infant and toddler years. This adversity, combined with the impact of implicit bias, put certain children at greater risk than others. In this session, participants will learn (1) how to recognize early adversity in infants and toddlers, (2) the important role of supportive, responsive relationships in ameliorating the negative effects of early adversity, and (3) how caregiver’s own implicit bias can be a barrier to identifying and supporting the children in their care.
