Description of Lecture
Handwritten books were an important medium for preserving and transmitting knowledge in the centuries before the invention of printing in 1454. Comaskey will cover medieval scripts, the techniques of book production in the Middle Ages, the kinds of books that were produced and the collection of such books into some notable medieval libraries. He will illustrate the lecture by showing some examples from his collection of medieval manuscripts. Bernard Comaskey, Department of History (from flyer)
