Teaching Module: Present and Alternative Energy Sources

Location

Atrium

Session Format

Poster Presentation

Research Area Topic:

MBI - Molecular Biology Initiative

Abstract

Society is constantly progressing towards cleaner and more efficient means of energy sources. The purpose of this module is to help students gain a better understanding of current popular energy resources available, as well as alternative renewable energy resources. Students will begin learning about petroleum and natural gas energy sources and what it takes to find and harvest these resources. Through the remainder of the module, students will learn about varying renewable resources that are in use today. Both positive and negative side effects from resources will be discussed in depth during each activity. Students will have the opportunity to run tests and collect data on different energy sources, much like professional natural resource surveyors and scientists do on a daily basis.
