Abstract
Thepiece-levelorder-fulfillmenttechnologyselectionproblemisanimportantstrategicproblemthatsignificantlyimpactsdistributioncentercosts andoperations, andistypicallysolvedbasedonempiricalexperiences.Given ademandcurveandasuiteofavailablepiece-levelorder-fulfillmenttechnologies, weanalyzewhereinthedemandcurvedifferentorder-fulfillment technologiesshouldbeapplied. Todoso, wedevelopaframeworkthat jointlydeterminesthebestcombinationofpiece-levelorder-fulfillmenttechnologiesandtheassignmentofSKUstothesetechnologies, whichrelaxes thesequential-modelingapproachofpreviousresearch. Wevalidateour methodologywithindustrydataandshowthatour modelprovidestechnologyrecommendationsandSKUassignmentsthatareconsistent with successfulimplementations.
