Abstract
We show both analytically and numerically that just fulfil the adiabatic condition is not sufficient to guarantee a production of a replica probe pulse in a Λ-system coupled to a probe and a coupling lasers. We show that in the adiabatic regime even with identical write (the first) and read (the second) coupling pulses, the regenerated optical field can have a pulse width that is very different from the original probe field. In this case, the regenerated pulse is not a faithful copy of the original probe pulse.
