Simulation Models for Analysis of Solid Bodies - An Honors Project

Poster 163

In this comprehensive project, simulation models for analyzing a variety of mechanical and structural problems were developed utilizing the Abaqus Finite Element software. Finite elements is a powerful method for solving complex problems, especially for problems for which no closed-form solutions exist. The research project had two main phases. In the first phase, the behavior of mechanical parts subjected to various applied loads such as bending moments, torsional loads, and temperature loads was investigated. The specific results for this phase are included in this presentation. These consist of simulation models of the studied mechanical parts, along with the corresponding deformations and stress results. All computed results obtained in the study are in complete agreement with the analytical values provided in Reference [1], clearly establishing that the developed models are suitable and accurate. The findings from the second phase of the study related to the analysis of structures are provided in a separate poster and not included here.
