Seismic Analysis of Multistory Steel and Concrete Structures

Poster 165

Description of a research project involving seismic analysis of structures utilizing the Abaqus Finite Element software package is provided in this presentation. The described undergraduate project was performed in the Civil Engineering and Construction Department at Georgia Southern with funding secured from the GSU Office of Research. As the initial phase of the project a series of preliminary tasks and investigations needed for conducting the planned investigation were conducted. These efforts involved mastering the essential specific skill sets needed for developing the proper Abaqus simulation models to accurately predict the response of structures subjected to prescribed earthquake loadings. Included in the presentation are sample developed simulation models and the corresponding results to illustrate how the dynamic response of structures can be determined and analyzed. These findings include the displacements and acceleration results at various critical points, as well as the developed Von Mises stresses in the structures.
