Relevance to Primary Strand
Our EC Cares system trained and developed our committee to be equipped to address the traumatic needs of our students from PreK-12th grade.
Brief Program Description
Explore the systems and processes implemented by East Central ISD on their road to becoming a trauma informed district. East Central ISD has taken a district wide approach in order to meet the traumatic needs of all students. Many of the students in ECISD are beyond "At-Risk". As a result, EC Cares was created to reach students that are considered "wounded" and/or are affected by a traumatic event. Each attendee will receive a trauma indicator sheet along with the ECISD Community Resource Guide.
Summary
By evaluating our attendance in the spring of 2016 and being aligned to HB 2398 in Texas, we listened to every family that had 10+ absences. In listening to their story, we had to create a system to assist our student(s) and families. Those families that had or were going through a traumatic event were not filed on with the courts. We were able to provide the families with meaningful interventions and/or resources. Last summer(2016), a committee was formed to evaluate the various signs that students were demonstrating their inability to attend school the prior school year. The committee became known as "EC Cares" and meets every six weeks about various student needs.
Evidence
EC Cares was created to meet the needs of our students. However, in informing our entire staff in the district, we have met the needs of our adults in the system that are serving our students.
