Westbury High School is a Data-Driven School that serves a diverse student population within the suburbs of Nassau County. What makes us unique is the multicultural community that encompasses over nineteen spoken languages.
Changing the Narrative…. Collaboratively, with Head (Academic Achievement & Leadership) and Heart (Social & Emotional Skills), our high school has had a significant increase in graduation rate and graduation cohorts such as the ENL Cohort and the Special Education Cohort as well as a significant reduction in drop out rate during the last five school years.
How was it done? Audience members will be immersed in practical models, programs, and strategies that can be implemented with fidelity such as….
-
The Harvard Data Wise Improvement Process
-
The Building Assets Reducing Risks Program (BARR) in 9th and 10th Grade
-
Professional Learning Communities (PLC)
-
Diversity Equity Inclusivity Practices
-
Social Emotional Learning and Extra Curricular Activities
-
Creation of collaborative School Based Committees
-
Family and Community Based Organization Partnerships
This work has also resulted in Westbury High School being recognized by the New York State Education Department for its graduation rate for young men of color.
