Heart: fostering social and emotional skills and the social climate for children and youth. The Two Rules of Love and Logic stress adults setting firm limits in loving ways and when a child causes a problem it is handed back to the child to solve.
Brief Program Description
Do you ever wish you could spend less time on discipline problems and more time mentoring? Would you like to go home at the end of the day relatively stress free? Do you want to erase class disruptions and power struggles? Love and Logic has some solutions for you.
Summary
Participants will learn easy practical skills in defusing student arguing, setting delayed consequences and placing the problem back with the student to solve. Through practice and question/answer time participants will learn these skills to try at home.
Evidence
Is there any empirical data supporting the effectiveness of the
9 Essential Skills for the Love and Logic Classroom teacher training curriculum? The answer is yes:
Spencer (2008) observed that teachers trained in the program believed that it:
-Had a positive impact on their school’s learning environment
-Had a positive impact on student achievement
-Allowed them to maximize instructional time
-Enabled them to spend less time dealing with student misbehavior
-Prepared them to deal more effectively with this misbehavior

Bullock (2011) observed similar findings, with teachers indicating that the
program:

- ·Enabled them to avoid arguing with students

Biographical Sketch
Linda Cunningham: Linda has 16 years experience teaching high-risk teens; 6 in the Indiana Department of Corrections (Juvenile) and 10 at Options Charter School, a relationship based alternative school. Linda became a Love and Logic facilitator in February 2016 after 5 years of implementing the skills in her classroom. Linda is now Director of Student Services for Options Charter Schools.
Michelle Walden: Michelle has been an educator, working in an alternative high school charter school setting, since 2006. She began her career teaching science at Options Charter School- Noblesville and through research for classroom management techniques to use with high-risk teens she stumbled across the 9 Essential Skills for the Love and Logic Classroom curriculum. She has used the skills taught by Love and Logic ever since, in not only her classrooms as a teacher but also with staff members as she became an administrator and at home with her own children. Today, Michelle is the Director of Schools for Options Charter Schools and is a facilitator for the 9 Essential Skills for the Love and Logic Classroom curriculum.
