Summary

The Fatherhood is Leadership Seminar is a Call To Action to parents, community organizations and educational institutions to Do More, Care More, Share More. This Seminar will take a deep dive into the importance of engaging fathers (and male role models) in their child's lives. We will look at the roles of educators, community organizations and mentoring programs in creating a father-friendly environment for optimal engagement. This Seminar will also discuss how we need to break down the traditional "Silo thinking" of organizations when it comes to serving at risk (at-hope) youth and give specific tools on how to better work together.

Evidence

Research shows that father engagement is associated with positive outcomes in children. Active parenting by a father has shown to have positive effects on the social, emotional, behavioral and academic development in children. Children with an active father in their life: 1. are less likely to drop out of school 2. are less likely to be incarcerated or abuse drugs 3. have better friendships 4. have fewer behavior problems, 5. have better results at school 6. higher self esteem
