Abstract
The instantaneous elastodynamic Poynting vector and its time averaged complex cognate waves can be used to visualize not only instantaneous energy flux associated with elastodynamic waves but also their traveling and standing wave components. The graphic and algebraic capabilities of Mathematica 3.0 are used to demonstrate the visual patterns associated with the instantaneous energy flux, and the traveling and standing wave components for various symmetric and antisymmetric modes of the Lamb wave [H. Lamb, Proc. Roy. Soc. London, Ser. A, 93, 1140128 (1917)]. Numerous vector field plots and several animations will be shown.
