Abstract or Description

Dr. Richard Cleveland will report on his work developing Mindfulness-Based Tactical Instruction (MBTI) for law enforcement instructors providing use of force training. The project partners with university, city, and county law enforcement agencies and intends to increase officer awareness and resilience to reduce stress before, during, and after incidents requiring use of force.

  • Agency collaboration has allowed beta-testing of the grant-funded hardware in participant-directed environments and training exercises.
  • Co-authorship with participating federal agency of a manuscript outlining theoretical framework of the research project.
  • Invited as a research observer for bi-lateral US-Canadian project because of grant-funded collaboration activities (i.e., beta-testing, grant-funded materials, manuscript).
