94th Annual Georgia Public Health Association Meeting and Conference Report

Abstract

The 94th Annual Meeting and Conference of the Georgia Public Health Association (GPHA) was held in Jekyll Island, Georgia, at the Jekyll Island Convention Center, on May 1-3, 2024. The goal of the 2024 Georgia Public Health Association Annual Meeting and Conference was to assemble public health professionals, students, County Board of Health members, and stakeholders for networking and educational opportunities to support the mission and vision of GPHA.

The theme for the 2024 Georgia Public Health Association Annual Meeting and Conference was selected by the GPHA Executive Board during a meeting in the early fall of 2023: “Lighting the Way to a Healthier Georgia”. One hundred and ninety-five (195) abstracts were submitted for peer review: eleven (11) were accepted as section meeting speakers, sixty-eight (68) were accepted for poster presentations, sixty-three (63) for workshop presentations and twenty-four (24) for roundtable sessions. Of the 68 posters, 22 were student submissions. Three plenary sessions with diverse public health practitioners and clinicians addressed key areas of public health advocacy with a focus on the unique needs of our state of Georgia.

The 94th Annual Meeting and Conference brought together six hundred and twenty-eight (628) conference attendees, which is the highest number of conference attendees to date for an Annual Meeting and Conference and provided an opportunity for participants to earn up to eleven (14.5) continuing education credits. An online, post-conference evaluation was completed by two hundred and eighty-one (281) attendees and will be used to identify areas of achievement and opportunities for improvement.
