Abstract
Digital forensics is a branch of forensic science in which past events can be recreated using forensic tools for legal measures. This paper aims to analyze data from an Android smartphone while comparing a commercial and an open source forensic tools. Paraben E3:DS and Autopsy forensic tools were compared to know how well they perform in analyzing data extracted from an Android smartphone. Through this work, it was found that the commercially available Paraben E3:DS outperformed the Autopsy open source forensic tool. It is also concluded that forensic investigators should stick with already well-established guidelines of digital forensics so that evidence can be accepted in the court of law.
