Abstract

The objective of this research project was to explore and amplify the voices of students with disabilities at Georgia Southern University’s Statesboro campus who are often overlooked. By delving into their unique experiences, perceptions, and roadblocks, I aspired to increase awareness and bring about positive change. It is imperative that we recognize the rights of students with disabilities to have equal access to campus amenities and resources. As my final result, through my observational analysis, I found that while most buildings had accommodations for students with disabilities, some were significantly more accessible than others. This highlighted the need for improving accessibility throughout campus to ensure that all students, regardless of their abilities, have equal access to resources and facilities. It is time to lend an ear, absorb knowledge, and take action toward constructing a more accessible and inclusive campus for everyone.

Thesis Summary

My research questions are focused on exploring the experiences and perspectives of students with disabilities at Georgia Southern University Statesboro Campus. To conduct a comprehensive study on this topic, it would be essential to formulate hypotheses based on these questions. A few hypotheses I had for my research is that students with disabilities are likely to have varying viewpoints regarding the accessibility of the Statesboro Campus, depending on their specific needs and experiences. Secondly, students with disabilities face a range of physical, social, and attitudinal barriers while navigating the campus, which may affect their academic performance and overall well-being. Lastly, there is a possibility that students with disabilities may have mixed perceptions of the support provided by the university to accommodate their needs.
