Abstract
This thesis will explore the nature of beauty through a work of historical fiction. It relates the representation of the world in art to the connection between people and social influences. Specifically, the focus will be on Italian Renaissance society and the lives of fictional artists during this time period. The main character’s primary conflict is driven by a supernatural connection to a countryside manor, while their internal struggles result from the conflicting opinions regarding the true nature of beauty. My research studies the gendered society of the early Italian Renaissance and the expectations of male and female artists during the time period. The intention of my thesis is to depict forgotten artists and what it means to create an unseen masterpiece.
