Presentation Description
Partnering with the Humane Society of South Coastal Georgia (HSSCG), this service-learning project involved the development of a program focused on Disaster Awareness and Preparedness among pet owners. While primarily recognized as an Emergency Management Function, this program when implemented will provide a supportive role in emergency operations planning. A needs assessment was conducted and a survey gathered preliminary data on the risk factors associated with pet evacuation failure and public health risks presented by abandoned pets in disaster scenarios.
