Presentation Description

As higher education professionals we are always seeking more creative and innovative ways to engage our students in intentional and meaningful service with the communities in which our institutions lay. This presentation will seek to show the participants how partnering our universities to the AmeriCorps National Service Program can benefit the university, its students, and the community. The session will detail how the AmeriCorps Program is a best practice for establishing mutually beneficially long term relationships with community agencies while providing students with a means to develop and grow through their service to their community. Conference participants will also walk away with examples for how to engage their students in civic engagement leadership positions. Session attendees will walk away from this presentation with practical knowledge of how to develop their student leaders into actively engaged service leaders from a tested signature program that has been creating service leaders for over seven years.
