From the small-town streets of Bronwood, Georgia, to the bright lights of country music’s biggest stages, Cole Swindell has never forgotten where he came from. A former Georgia Southern student, Swindell’s journey from fraternity house songwriter to chart-topping artist is one of talent, determination, and undeniable passion.
With 11 No. 1 singles, collaborations with country music powerhouses like Luke Bryan, Thomas Rhett, and Florida Georgia Line, and multiple American Country Music Awards, Swindell has cemented his place in the industry. But beyond his accolades, he has done something even more meaningful: he has carried Georgia Southern with him every step of the way.
Swindell’s unwavering support for the University has elevated Georgia Southern’s national brand in ways money could never buy. He proudly sports the GS symbol on national stages, stays engaged with students, and continually gives back to the institution that helped shape him. For his extraordinary success in the music industry, his deep-rooted devotion to Georgia Southern, and the ways in which he embodies the University’s values, Cole Swindell was awarded the Honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts during the Spring 2023 Commencement ceremony.
