Georgia Municipal Association Practicum

The Department of Public and Nonprofit Studies in conjunction with the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) presents the Local Government Practicum Program (LGP) on an annual basis. The LGP offers MPA students (and other approved undergraduate and graduate students outside of the department) experience conducting research and policy analysis for local government through practical application of their classroom knowledge to projects proposed by municipalities within the southeastern region of Georgia. Students select projects that align with their interests and work individually, or in pairs on larger projects, under the direction of the course instructor. At the end of the fall semester each applicant presents the results of their work to an audience of municipal leaders, GMA officials, university leaders, and students at an event which is held at Georgia Southern University.
