GERA Award Paper Deadline: December 1, 2023

This submission process enters your paper for consideration of Distinguished Paper Award or Outstanding Student Research Award.

In order to be considered for this honor, it is required that you:

  1. Submit the paper
  2. Present the paper at annual Georgia Educational Research Conference

Submit Award Document.

Papers submitted for the Distinguished Paper Award or the Outstanding Student Research Award must be a maximum of 2500 words, excluding title page, references, and appendices. Papers that exceed the maximum word count will not be reviewed for the award.

Distinguished Paper Award

The Georgia Educational Research Association (GERA) participates in the Distinguished Paper Session sponsored by the State and Regional Educational Research Associations (SRERA), an affiliate of the American Educational Research Association (AERA). Participation requires state and regional associations to select a distinguished paper that reflects the high quality of research presented at state and regional conferences. The winner of the GERA Distinguished Paper Award is guaranteed a slot at a SRERA session at the next AERA annual meeting.

Outstanding Student Research Award

GERA sponsors the Outstanding Student Research Award in conjunction with its annual conference. Students submitting for this award must be currently enrolled in a recognized graduate program OR must have completed a graduate program no earlier than the semester immediately prior to the GERA conference date. The graduate student submitting the winning research paper will be recognized at the GERA Conference.

Eligibility for Awards

Registration for the GERA Conference is required. The author must present the winning paper at the GERA Conference. Recipient of the Distinguished Paper Award must also present paper at the next AERA Meeting. [Note: AERA registration will only be paid for the first author of the Distinguished Paper Award.] Papers may have more than one author; in the case of the student award, all authors must be students (e.g., a faculty member may not be one of the authors). Individuals may be the first author on only one paper being considered for an award. If there are multiple authors on winning paper, only one certificate will be given. The same paper can only be submitted for one GERA award, i.e., the same paper cannot be considered for both the Distinguished Paper Award and the Outstanding Student Research Award. Recipients of an award become ineligible for that award for a period of three years.

Submission Requirements

Paper (maximum 2500 words, excluding title page, references, and appendices) must be submitted via Digital Commons by the stated due date. Papers that exceed the maximum Word count will not be reviewed for the award.

Review Criteria

Criteria for selecting a winning paper will be the same as used by reviewers of various scholarly journals publishing articles related to educational research. A wide variety of topics and research methods pertaining to educational research are appropriate for this competition.
