Abstract

The conceptual framework for the development of the term “Athletic Academician” was borne from the experiences of an NFL former player current wide receiver coach in the NFL, who has entered a doctoral program in collaboration with his doctoral professor who was an athlete in college and a former Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR), as defined by the NCAA for a Division II university. This paper presentation will provide a glimpse into the development of the Conceptual Framework from the collaborations between the professional coach and the professor about the importance of demonstrating that Black Athletes can and do graduate from college and pursue teaching, leading, and supporting their families and communities.
