Abstract

National writing scores indicate that schools are not meeting the instructional needs of writers. In order to gain insight into the instructional needs of young writers, it is necessary to learn more about how they understanding writing. This presentation will examine and report on existing research concerning young children’s writing beliefs, understandings, and perceptions. The review of existing research will be used to illuminate the importance of continued research in the field of writing to improve classroom instruction.
