Inclusive Pedagogy for Diverse Classrooms
Description
The participants will discuss and receive materials exlaining what we can do to ensure students can read successfully materials the teacher provides or materials the students select. (Allington, 2002) explained a self-evident truth that the students can't learn much from books that are too hard for them to read. (Gunning, 2003) emphasized the importance of providing students with materials on a level they can read. (Chall & Conard,1991) showed how when reading materials are not challenging growth slows. If reading passages are too difficult students are often off task (Anderson, 1990). Students can grow to hate reading (Juell, 1994) if they can't read the materials provided. Participants will recieve materials suggesting what to do to determine a studnet's reading level and how to match reading materials to the decided reading level. These procedures can provdie for the differentiation needed to provide reading instruction for students on diverse learning levels.
