Description

Everyone deserves a chance to learn using hands-on inquiry-based strategies, especially when studying social studies content. Social studies opens up the door to history, promotes social engagement, and encourages students to learn about events from different points of view. Participants in this session will engage in high impact practices (HIP) activities. They will benefit from attending this interactive workshop because participants will learn about and participate in research-based differentiated activities that can be brought back for immediate classroom implementation. All the participants will leave with graphic organizers, art-integration samples, social studies inquiry units, and suggested text for additional social studies hands-on integration lesson plans. Some of the activities will include using Wiki Sticks to review content from prior classes to grab students’ attention. Excerpts of music and dances from different eras will be taught, analyzed to promote discussion, and collected during a Padlet-integrated activity so participants will have access to all the resources for their own classroom.
