First Presenter's Brief Biography

LaPortia Mosley, M.Ed., is a Double Eagle alumna and an instructor of elementary education in the Department of Elementary and Special Education. Mosley earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree in early childhood education from Georgia Southern, and also holds a gifted in-field certification. An educator with 14 years of experience, Mosley has taught in both special education and elementary education classrooms across Southeast Georgia including Hinesville, Swainsboro, Lyons and Statesboro. During her tenure in the classroom, Mosley hosted Georgia Southern COE student teachers and provided mentorship as their clinical associate teacher. Mosley enjoys mentoring first-year teachers as they navigate the world of teaching.

Abstract

Drawing on my own experiences, I will discuss how I have incorporated innovative approaches and strategies into my teaching, with the aim of creating a classroom environment that is supportive, collaborative, and inspiring. I will share stories of how I have used creative teaching methods and technology to engage students and create a positive learning atmosphere. I will also discuss the importance of recognizing and celebrating the individual successes and accomplishments of each student, and how this has helped me to become the teacher I needed. Through a combination of interactive sessions and hands-on activities, attendees will be inspired to become the teacher their younger selves needed.

This conference session will focus on the importance of teachers understanding the unique needs of their students and the impact they can have on them. As educators, we are responsible for providing the best possible educational experience to our students. As teachers, we need to be role models, mentors, and cheerleaders. We must strive to understand our students’ needs and find creative ways to provide the support they need. The topic of this conference proposal, Becoming the Teacher My Younger Self Needed, speaks to a very important issue in education. Students need teachers who are compassionate, understanding, and committed to their growth and success. Many of our students come to school with unique backgrounds, experiences, and challenges. As teachers, we must work to understand these unique needs and provide the necessary support. At this conference, we will explore ways to become the teacher that our younger selves needed. We will discuss ways to create an environment of acceptance and understanding in our classrooms. We will discuss ways to provide the support that students need to feel safe and respected, and ways to help students develop the self-confidence and self-esteem they need to realize their potential. We will also discuss ways to connect with our students and parents; and create meaningful relationships. We will discuss how to help students develop the skills they need to be successful in life. We will explore how to create a classroom culture that encourages creativity and innovation, and how to help students become engaged and motivated learners. Finally, we will discuss strategies to help us become better teachers. We will explore how to use classroom technology to enhance the learning experience, ways to foster a positive learning environment, and how to become better equipped to build positive relationships with our students. By becoming the teacher our younger selves needed, we can help ensure that all students, regardless of their backgrounds, receive the best possible educational experience.
