• Deep Dive into the Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Routine Immunizations Across the Lifespan

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic caused disruptions in routine health services including vaccination. Routine immunization orders and administration declined in the United States in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Vaccine orders and administration have subsequently rebounded since this time, but unevenly. Vaccination coverage among certain groups declined during the pandemic and have not yet recovered. The full impact will take time to determine.

This data synthesis examines the COVID-19 Pandemic and its impact on routine vaccinations across the lifespan in Georgia and the United States, including 1) how pandemic-related declines in vaccine orders and coverage differ by vaccine, location, and socio-demographic characteristics and 2) whether the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted routine vaccination attitudes and intent. Data sources examined for this synthesis include Vaccine For Children (VFC) ordering data, Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) survey data, immunization and electronic medical records (EMRs), and claims data.
