High Resolution Anoscopy Project in Rural HIV clinic

Abstract

The risk of HPV induced anal carcinoma is increased among persons living with HIV and AIDS. Considering the results of the ANCHOR study, screening and treatment for HPV change among these individuals over the age of 30 is indicated and recommended. Our project to start a high resolution anoscopy clinic and screening is coming to fruition. Our goal is to reduce the risk of development of anal pathology and cancer in persons living with HIV and AIDS. Our clients have limited access to healthcare in many cases and there is no access to a high resolution anoscopy clinic within our geographic area. By the development of these clinics we will hope to reduce the morbidity and mortality involved with HPV induced anal rectal carcinoma and improve the health of persons living with HIV AIDS and Georgia.
