Leveraging Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention Education to Bolster Risk Reduction for Brain Health.

Abstract

Georgia Department of Public Health Injury Prevention Program creates a healthier Georgia by leveraging resources, addressing systems change, and fortifying a robust person-centered public health response to dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease. The response utilizes Georgia’s established infrastructure, clear priorities, and the dynamic network of partnerships guided by a regularly updated state plan to increase risk reduction efforts across the state.

Creating valuable risk reduction material around dementia involves collaborating with multiple public health sectors to develop a framework for linking chronic disease and injury prevention to overall brain health. By incorporating cross-cutting messaging into existing public health programming, we can make the most out of educational efforts. This coupled with conversations of shared risk and protective factors in adult populations, can increase Georgians abilities to achieve better overall health and wellbeing. This presentation will discuss shared risk and protective factors for the adult population and introduce ways in which brain health can be incorporated into existing messaging campaigns for expanded reach, with little extra planning required.
