Presentation Abstract

Students with an EBD eligibility are often the most difficult students to work with in our classrooms. This presentation will describe concrete and pragmatic solutions for combating the severe behavior which is characteristic of this population of students. Research suggests that the best way to work with students with an EBD is to change your mindset, give up control, be quick to forgive, don't take it personally, give gifts that are not earned (non-contingent reinforcement), model kindness, change the structure of your classroom, don’t be afraid to make mistakes in front of your students, teach expectations, never give a consequence in anger, and much more!
