Growing Greatness; Utilizing Community Partnerships to Facilitate Social-Emotional Learning

Presentation Abstract

The session will begin with a brief introduction and background (research) on the use of the Universal Behavior Screener and the use of this data to identify tiered groups for targeted behavior intervention. Audience members will participate in an interactive activity with student profiles (this will create an understanding of the factors that impact behavior and social /emotional functioning). We will discuss and show examples of Tier 1 and Tier 2 supports (calm down boxes, pbis rewards, sensory floor etc.) Examples will be provided to demonstrate how we meet the needs of Tier 3 and 4 students' using community partnerships such as Alliance Theater and Gardening Mentors.. Discussion will be held on lessons learned / impact of our community partnership program etc. The last 5 minutes will be used for audience questions/ comments. The content of this presentation will provide examples of strategies that parents could easily implement as well as examples of how community partnerships can be utilized to enhance the social /emotional learning of students. Participants will receive a handout which provides research on social/emotional learning and other useful links as well as hi-lights from the presentation.
