Full-Staff Buy-In is Key to Your PBIS/SEL Success

Presentation Abstract

This workshop helps with educator and staff buy-in on why today’s schools need social and emotional learning married into their existing school day.

PBIS coordinators will learn proven solutions and helpful tips on persuading all staff that the hard work of implementing PBIS Tier 1, 2 or 3, will ease their daily workload. We feel your pain, educators! You care enough to work hard for students; to make calls, hit standards, and work nights & weekends ~ and now you have to teach respect on top of everything else?

We share needs and frustrations as a group, pick the most relevant as topics to discuss, and then turn them into engaging scenarios to analyze in order to help each other fix real-world school and social issues. Advice on how best to connect with different parent personalities will be addressed.

Science proves emotional well-being improves student outcomes. We'll do a deep dive into how student success reflects:

  1. The health of the school
  2. The parent engagement and
  3. Community health and wellness.

These three topics will be analyzed (and printed) so you're able to:

  1. Bring pertinent information back to your administration on how marrying PBIS and SEL will improve test scores
  2. Use simple "Home Connects" activities (in English and Spanish) so parents and guardians can be readily involved with their child's SEL learning
  3. Understand how happier, confident kids can positively affect your community through youth "JOI Clubs" and neighborhood projects

We'll finish with some powerful original poetry you can bring back to your classroom to share with your students on how JOY is the emotion of choice, for both young and old alike! We revisit your own self-care, as educators, with simple reminders to find joy inside and outside the classroom.
