Transformative Discipline

Presentation Abstract

The Calhoun City Schools 6-12 Campus continually seeks to improve. We have achieved significant decreases in our office referrals in the past three years as we have sought to transform our school through positive discipline. This presentation will lend itself to administrators in charge of discipline, as we will focus on sharing our stories of success as well as our stories of “well that didn’t work.” Highlighted will be ways to think outside the box in regards to discipline; how to move away from traditional practices of discipline to practices that lead to changed behavior; how to face misbehavior with a positive approach; how to differentiate between behavior that should be handled within the classroom and what would necessitate office intervention; how to involve students in PBIS; and how to offer creative, low cost rewards.
