Presentation Abstract

What do we want our children to be, to know, and to be able to do when they graduate? How can the entire community be organized to ensure that all students reach district and life goals? PBIS and SEL approaches differ in important ways, but they are very compatible. Together, they offer the full range of strategies and techniques needed for effective school-wide discipline, climate and culture.

PBIS and SEL both foster pro-social behaviors, develop critical social skills, and contribute to a positive school culture. This session will discuss the difference between SEL and PBIS, and how can you make sure you’re taking steps to integrate both into your classroom, school, district, and community to achieve positive and effective outcomes.

This presentation will provide an overview of the benefits of integrating SEL and PBIS within a multi-tiered system of supports in schools. Implementation barriers, evidence-based strategies and resources for successfully integrating SEL and PBIS will be discussed.

When parents, the community, and schools all work together to teach and implement prosocial behaviors the entire world benefits. Participants will walk away with how to implement PBIS and SEL strategies at home, school to achieve postitve outomes for greater behavioral and academic success.
