Using PBIS as a Second Chance - Not a Last Chance
Abstract:
Although SOAR Academy is an alternative school setting located in the Bibb County School District, the school has the firm belief of using PBIS to give students a second chance, as opposed to a last chance! The staff members are committed to the planning and executing of the school-wide PBIS Framework. This session will focus on the importance of using data to develop an effective PBIS Implementation Plan. Participants will understand and learn the importance of the 10 PBIS Critical Elements, as well as how to develop a PBIS Team Notebook that supports and shows evidence of PBIS in action.
As Consequential Interventionists, the staff embeds the behavioral expectations in a non-traditional setting while using positive framing to build positive relationships with the students. Student behavior data is closely tracked and drives the lesson planning process for modeling appropriate behavior for the students and appropriate interventions for the teachers. Teachers are able to determine the difference between minor and major behaviors through situational scenarios and are able to collaboratively determine the best teacher interventions to put in place so that both students and teachers are able to experience success. Come and be enlightened on how a negative consequence becomes a positive intervention!
Participants will:
v Learn how to create a positive school climate through PBIS Implementation.
v Learn how to provide evidence of the 10 critical elements of PBIS through the use of a PBIS
Team Notebook.
v Learn how to utilize data to develop PBIS lesson plans and a school-wide Action Plan.
v Learn research-based teacher intervention strategies and resources that help support a positive learning environment.
