Brief Biography

Oatanisha Dawson, Ed.D. – Dr. Oatanisha Dawson is currently the assistant principal of Goodyear Elementary School. Oatanisha received her doctorate in P-12 Administration from Georgia Southern University. In addition to her teaching and administrative experiences at both the middle and elementary school levels, she teaches education courses at Coastal Georgia Community College. Through her administrative experience she led the initial training and implementation of her school’s PBIS program and their achievement of Operational status.

April Kilroy, Ed.S.- April Kilroy is currently the assistant principal of Glyndale Elementary School April received her specialist in Educational Leadership from Valdosta State University. As an administrator in the Glynn County School System, April was a member of the Cohort 2 PBIS implementation. Through this experience she led the initial training and implementation of her school’s PBIS program and their achievement of Operational status.

Amy Yacobacci, Ed.S. – Amy Yacobacci is currently the Intervention Coordinator for the Glynn County School System. Amy received her specialist in Educational Leadership from Valdosta State University. One of her many roles for the Glynn County School system is the PBIS District Coordinator. Through this role she has led the district in the initial training and implementation for both Cohort 1 and Cohort 2 schools. Her guidance and support has led all Glynn County Schools in the achievement of both emergent and operational status.

Presentation Abstract

Since 2011 Glynn County Schools’ commitment to SW-PBIS has been a collaborative effort between school leaders, teachers and stakeholders. Within each phase, challenges to PBIS implementation were met that could have potentially compromised its effectiveness. During the readiness stage, teacher buy-in and stakeholder support had to be tackled head-on. Creativity, faculty and staff motivation, and parental involvement were a concern as each school emerged into full implementation. Now, after acquiring and maintaining operational status, Glynn County’s school leaders merge trend data with survey results to prioritize target areas. In this session, school leaders will highlight strategies to reduce office discipline referrals and improve committee ratings on the Benchmarks of Quality in order to sustain successful implementation of PBIS. School leaders will also share how the use of smart technology will enhance data collection methods, empower parents at home and survey data as a result positively impacting the CCRPI score. Myths about positive supports will be debunked as presenters show attendees how to use strategies at home and school with ease. Participants will leave this session with practical and effective strategies that they can begin using today to link the power of positive supports between the home, school and community.
