Brief Biography

Dr. Maggie Kjeris the Pearson Assessment Consultant for Georgia and Regional Manager for the Clinical Assessment team in the southeastern/southwestern United States. Maggie’s background is in special education and assessment. Maggie’s teaching career spans over 20 years and includes teaching experiences on three continents and several different states. Maggie primarily worked in self-contained EBD programs where her reading specialty allowed her to provide relevant assessment and instruction. She has been with Pearson since 2000 and currently resides in Georgia with her husband and golden retriever, Sadie. This is Maggie’s 12th year serving as the Georgia Assessment Consultant. Maggie is a member of Phi Delta Kappa International.

Presentation Abstract

This presentation will focus on the practical application of PBIS and RTI for Behavior within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) for K-12. The common challenges expressed by districts in establishing these systems will be reviewed, as will the requisite components and processes for a complete PBIS rollout. The presenters will discuss these challenges, and how districts have utilized available online tools to help overcome them, and have more successful processes and better outcomes for their students. Creating a positive climate more conducive to learning and more preventative of problem behaviors, establishing a systematic approach to discipline, identification of students who may be at-risk for behavioral issues, discovery and application of appropriate research based interventions, continuous progress monitoring, and data-driven decision making will be discussed, and presented within a single platform for management, analysis, professional development, screening and planning. Please join us as we look at how to take Behavior Improvement from theory to practice with real outcome data from schools districts in the field.
