Proposal

Although we have been teaching information literacy for years at the Georgia Highlands College Libraries, there has never been a comprehensive effort to develop an integrated set of materials which would allow us to assess our efforts holistically. In the Fall of 2019, our Information Literacy Working Group started to develop a set of ACRL Framework-based "drop in" information literacy learning outcomes and objectives. Over the course of the year, we developed the objectives and outcomes, created a flexible assessment tool, and a guide to help GHC librarians integrate the new SLOs into their teaching. In this session we will talk about our iterative development process and how we have integrated these SLOs and assessment into our teaching. Following the guidelines outlined by ACRL and implementing questions using backwards design, we structured outcomes using Bloom’s taxonomy. After completing the SLOs, we matched each outcome with an objective assessment question. For our students, we focused on writing questions that would be accessible to any level, and for our library faculty we wanted a tool that will be easy to administer. We created the resource guide to teach librarians how to implement the SLOs and to share resources and activities related to our SLOs. Join us as we share our successes and challenges with this project!

Presentation Description

Georgia Highlands College Libraries Information Literacy Group set out to develop an integrated set of materials which would allow us to assess our instruction efforts holistically. Last fall we developed a set of Framework-based "drop in" student learning outcomes and objectives, along with a flexible assessment tool and a resource guide. Join us as we discuss our successes and challenges with the iterative development process and how we integrated the SLOs and assessment into our teaching.
