Let students amaze you! Undergraduate composition courses offer students the opportunity to expand both their critical thinking and information literacy skills. Through a focused semester-long process, students in English composition are challenged to become an “expert” in one area of student-driven theme based topic selection. Learn more about the design and implementation of a targeted research assignment that is well received by students.
Short Description
In this session learn how student-driven topic selection for freshman composition courses enhanced course participation, increased peer to peer conversations, and improved the research process. The goal of the presentation is to provide a framework for topic discovery and an overview of student development of expertise in a specific area. Writing prompts will be shared along with student feedback on the process.
