A general election year in the United States provides a good opportunity to critique, assess and offer debate over the merits of various policy proposals. Unfortunately, economic reality during such times can be a scarce commodity, too often cloaked in incentives to polarize through sensationalism and condemnation of the status quo. Consequently, the public may be led to believe in Grand Canyon-like divides within the economics profession about how capitalist economies work and which flavor of policies tend to be useful during certain periods...
